Year 5 York Visit.

Last week Year 5 embarked on a very exciting adventure to York! After being treated to some First Class style train travel courtesy of our friends at LNER, we arrived safely in York.  The children were very excited and within minutes of our arrival we were already undertaking our first activity with a guided tour and workshop at the York Railway Museum.  The pupils loved their workshop and learned a lot about the evolution of rail travel in the UK especially the part where Mr Middis was “volunteered” to dress in a ridiculous ‘kite like’ outfit and made to stand in a wind tunnel wearing a sombrero and ski goggles! After our lunch we ventured onwards to York Minster which always has the “Wow!” factor as the children take in the amazing architecture of this incredible building. We then visited The York Chocolate Experience where children learned about the history of chocolate making in York and also got to taste and make their very own chocolates! After a fun filled first day we then went to Pizza Express for an amazing meal before heading back to our lovely hotel to get settled in for the night.  The next morning we were up and ready for another fun packed day which included a tour of the Jorvik Viking Centre and a workshop at ‘The Dig’.  The pupils got to work in role as archaeologists and discover all kinds of real historical artefacts whilst learning about the Viking history of this important site.  After another fantastic meal (at Byron Burger this time) we then checked out of our hotel and headed for the train.  The journey home was tremendous again as our hosts at LNER gave the children to treats and snacks galore to help them enjoy their travels home.  We really were treated like royalty! Needless to say that all the pupils did Western proud throughout the trip and judging by the tired children (and staff! Ha Ha!) it was clear that everyone had thoroughly enjoyed their time away in York! Extremely well done Year 5 we could not be prouder of you all!
