Our Year Five pupils have been learning about the work of the community art group ‘Washed Ashore’. Based in Oregon (USA) their aim is to turn plastic, ocean pollution into beautiful art to raise awareness of the problem. A plastic bottle for example can take up to 450 years to degrade or break down. Inspired by their fantastic sculptures of sea life our Year Five pupils are currently making their own art from the plastic bottles and waste we have collected over the last two weeks.
Here’s what some of our pupils thought …
Freya: ‘We made a jellyfish out of an umbrella, different materials and plastic bottles and I really enjoyed it’
Grace: ‘I used scrap fabric to make jellyfish tentacles, I enjoyed making it, it was fun’
Liam: ‘I loved it, it was amazing’
