Uniform Reminder

Dear parent/carer,

RE: Western School Uniform Reminder

As thoughts turn to the new academic year and the ‘back to school’ uniform special sales and offers begin so early, please may we take this opportunity to remind you of our uniform policy. Please can we also remind you of the importance of naming all items of school uniform with your child’s initials and class. This means that lost items found around school can easily be returned.

We consider that uniform is important for several reasons.

  • It provides pupils with a sense of identity and pride in their school.
  • It enhances the appearance of pupils and therefore the reputation of the school.
  • It helps to instil a sense of purpose in pupils when they put on their uniform in the mornings.
  • It helps overcome the worry about “fitting in” with fashions and keeping up with other children. All children feel equal and there is no stress, competition or worry for families about expensive brands/labels.
  • It overcomes the problem for both parents and teachers about what is suitable attire for school.

Uniform: Our children have a great reputation in the community for being smart and proud of their uniform. Please help us keep this up by ensuring all of your child’s items comply with our policy in September:

  • Emerald green or white polo shirt
  • Navy sweatshirt or cardigan
  • Navy, grey or black skirt or tailored trousers (not tracksuit, leggings, combat or sweat pants)
  • Plain navy, grey, black or white socks or tights.
  • Flat, black, sensible shoes or trainers (please ensure that trainers do not have lots of coloured flashing lights, bright coloured laces or bright stripes). Short, fitted, flat, black ankle boots are permitted. Loose or knee length boots are not suitable inside school – children find them very uncomfortable when indoors due to our underfloor heating.
  • Blue and white checked dresses

PE kit

  • White or emerald green t-shirt and navy shorts or jogging bottoms
  • Black plimsolls or black trainers

Other types of boots or wellies may be worn to school, but a change of shoes must be provided for use indoors. Pupils may wear plain silver or gold stud earrings and a watch. Earrings should be removed for PE. No other jewellery is permitted. Clear nail varnish is permitted. Coloured nail varnish, gels or extensions are not permitted.

Extreme hairstyles are not permitted in school; this includes hair dyed in unnatural colours and      shaved patterns in hair.

Please note that as school provides all necessary stationery and equipment, children are not allowed to bring in their own additional items e.g. pencil cases, pen assortments etc. Many thanks for your support with this.
