Year 3

Year 3 have had a fantastic start to the year, learning all about Waldo the elephant and his adventures to a new animal sanctuary. This plucky and curious mammal is on the verge of moving home when he hears a strange and mysterious voice coming from the edge of his enclosure. On further investigation, he realises that there is an elephant shaped hole which he can’t resist travelling through. The story has given the children an opportunity to draft some brilliant character description based on Waldo’s thoughts and feelings and we are all excited to find out about who the unknown voice belongs to. The children have also enjoyed some ‘staff training’, when an employee of Mr P Anda visited us from Waldo’s zoo. They had the chance to meet and handle a range of animals and learn more about their habitats.

 Year 4

WANTED – Project Manager to oversee the transition of animals from Wylam Zoo to our  Animal Park. The children have been busily  practicing their persuasive writing in order to secure this job. As part of this exciting topic, the children have been designing secure enclosures for the animals to prevent any escaping animals from pooing on our school field again! They have been investigating electric circuits as one possible solution for the new gates. We look forward to testing our working circuits and introducing motors to allow the gates to open and close. As employees of the Animal Park, the children have received training in the handling and care of small animals, ranging from Chilean Rose Tarantulas and Hissing Cockroaches to  Pygmy Hedgehogs!
