September 2018 Newsletter

We are so excited to have started lots of new learning and already our diary has been jam packed with visitors across school.  Work on our Animal Park Unit is continuing and is being enriched with visitors and visits.  So far we have been lucky enough to have been visited by Animal Antics and Dove Marine.  The police also led fantastic workshops in Y6 during E-safety week to teach children more about how to stay safe online especially when using social media.

Children have been spending extra time this week refreshing their understanding of bullying.  Common themes have been: defining bullying, learning how to identify bullying behaviour, developing strategies to speak out against bullying and also working on building confidence and emotional resilience in this area.  Class teachers have been impressed by the mature and thoughtful contributions to discussions in this area.

We have lots of exciting diary events over the coming months and look forward to welcoming you into school this Wednesday for parents’ evening and book look.  A representative from Burnside will attend who will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

We are going paperless with our newsletters so in future you will find them on our school website; a message will be sent via the school app with a direct link to the newsletter.  Paper copies are available by request.

We have had really positive feedback to home learning this year and staff in school have been overwhelmed when hearing about the children’s acts of kindness; we can’t wait to hear about more lovely acts of kindness over the coming months.

Join us on our Artsmark Journey.

We have recently updated our website, with information about our work towards achieving Artsmark.  The Artsmark award celebrates  outstanding creative achievement in schools and  Western is now part of this exciting process.
